TOP 10 EUROPEAN PARTY SPOTS

#7 PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC

PIC: 'Absinthe' prepared properly

After the Velvet Revolution (a non-violent uprising that saw the country – then Czechoslovakia – emerge from behind the Iron Curtain and adopt the freedoms of the West), the city of Prague sprung into life and quickly adopted a reputation as one of Europe's party capitals.

Now, of course, Prague is not as cheap a destination as it once was, but, compared with western Europe, it remains quite attractive. Drinks remain relatively inexpensive and with some of the world premier beers on offer ('Gambrinus', 'Pilsner Urquell' and the original 'Budweiser') it is very much still value for money.

Clubs in Prague open til dawn and now attract world-class DJs, so clubbing is certainly one way to party in Prague, but the city has something for all tastes, including the 'illicit' and the 'erotic', if that is your cup of tea.

No doubt, all of that, is the reason why Prague is such a popular location for Stag and Hen weekends.

Prague is quite well-known for its 'absinthe' bars. Whilst the modern version of the controversial spirit – affectionately nicknamed the Green Fairy – probably doesn't retain the hallucinogenic ingredients that made it a favourite of the likes of Vincent Van Gogh, Toulouse Lautrec and Edgar Allen Poe, the process and ceremony of preparing absinthe for drinking makes visiting an authentic absinthe bar an interesting experience. And its highly alcoholic, so you will definitely be buzzing when you move on to the next establishment!
