TOP 10 EUROPEAN PARTY SPOTS

#1 IBIZA, SPAIN

PIC: 'Espuna' (Foam Party) on Ibiza

Every summer, the world's best DJ's descend in bulk on this small Mediterranean island. When they do, the partying hordes follow!

One of the Balearic Islands, located off the east coast of Spain, Ibiza has become one of the world's legendary party destinations. Hedonists from all over the world flock to the island to watch the likes of David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Tiesto play in decadent superclubs like 'Space', 'Pacha', 'Eden' and 'Cream'.

The party starts at around 2am (though pre-partying, and pre-pre-partying, has usually been going on for much longer) and goes through til at least 8am, with many of the clubs and partygoers not shutting down until around noon.

The scene on Ibiza is no longer just about electronic beats with venues like 'Ibiza Rocks', as the name suggests, opening the islands up to different genres of music and different crowds.

Of course, away from the bigger venues, there are also smaller bars and clubs that organise different events, such as foam parties known here as 'Espuna' (Spanish for 'foam'). There are also different styles of party cruises, catering for different budgets, and, for something more relaxed, there is the infamous, chilled-out 'Cafe Del Mar'.

Ibiza can be an extraordinarily expensive place to party with entry to one of the superclubs costing upwards of 50 and drinks inside costing upwards of €10.

It also must be acknowledged that there is very definitely a party drug culture in Ibiza. The high prices of drinks may be responsible for the popularity of drugs, or the favouring of drugs over drink might be the reason for the high drink prices. Either way, whether the chicken or the egg came first, the length of your stay in Ibiza probably depends on how long your wallet, or body, can afford it!
