TOP 10 EUROPEAN PARTY SPOTS

#3 IOS, GREECE

PIC: fire juggling at 'Circus'

Whilst sometimes overlooked as a party destination, in favour of more famous neighbour Mykonos, this small island in the Cyclades puts forward an iron-clad case for being Greece's best party.

The best compliment I can give to a party destination is to say that after four nights of partying there, I knew I had to get the hell out of there! (In the words of Rick James: “I'm sorry, Charlie Murphy, I was having too much fun!”)

In Ios, the fun starts in the early afternoon when 'Far Out Beach Club' (at Milopotas Beach) cranks up the bass. Bikini-clad girls dance poolside, ice-cold daiquiris are served and it's the perfect wind-in to a long afternoon and night of Mediterranean excess.

When the sun goes down, the party moves up to Hora (the main town) where cheap cocktails and concoctions such as Reverse Jaeger Bombs (literally a glass full of Jaegermeister with just a shot of Red Bull) are the order of the day.

The night then progresses through bars such as 'Flames' and 'Circus' (where the bar stuff put on a highly-entertaining fire-juggling show).

After all that, you end up at 'Rehab'. I'm not talking about the kind of place you might run into Charlie Sheen. Or maybe it is, given 'Rehab' is the scene of more drinking and debauchery before you walk back to your accommodations with the sky lightening above you.

The bad news is that you WILL wake up with a hangover. The good news is that your recovery is spent lying on fine, golden sand – a rare find in Europe, where pebbles and rocks are more common.

Lie back and get prepared to do it all again!
